What does the actual progression of appointments for evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction look like in clinical practice? This course provides seven real world case examples, bringing together concepts from the entire Pediatric Pelvic Floor series. The case studies follow children from ages 3 to 17, and cover a range of pelvic floor problems from enuresis, pelvic floor muscle discoordination and dysfunction, to psychological considerations, and dysfunctional voiding. This course will help rehabilitation professionals understand the complexities involved in treating children experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. Learn more

How can physical therapists evaluate and address complex pediatric cases involving urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction? How do physical therapy evaluation and treatment approaches overlap and interact with the medical evaluation and treatment? This course, with Dawn Sandalcidi, seeks to answer these questions and more by providing an in depth look at the physical therapy evaluation and process for planning and executing treatment. Concepts from the course are discussed using real-world case examples and demonstrations of exercises with mock patients. Learn more

Without an in-depth understanding of non-invasive tools available to therapists, it is not possible to effectively practice pediatric pelvic floor rehabilitation. This course, with Dawn Sandalcidi, covers tools and strategies for evaluating pelvic floor function in children. Non-invasive tools covered include Bowel-Bladder Diaries, Uroflow measurements, and Ultrasound. Invasive tools include DMSA Renal Scan, Cystometry, and Voiding Cystourethrogram (VCUG). All of these techniques will be discussed within the context of specific case examples, and representative data for specific diagnoses. Learn more

How can therapists effectively teach children to execute subtle muscle contractions to perform proper toileting technique? One answer is the emerging practice of biofeedback or technique in which a normally unconscious physiological process is presented to a patient and therapist as a visual, auditory or tactile signal. This course, with Dawn Sandalcidi, describes forms of biofeedback that are available in a clinical setting, most prominently Surface Electromyography SEMG, and describes specific biofeedback treatment progressions, as well as the limitations of biofeedback. Concepts from the course are discussed using real-world case examples. Learn more

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), by 5 years of age, over 90% of children have daytime bladder control. What is life like for the other 10% who experience urinary leakage during the day? This course series, with Dawn Sandalcidi, seeks to answer this and other questions, and to arm clinicians with the background knowledge and evidence-based techniques needed to address these important issues in pediatric patients. In this installment, Dawn Sandalcidi provides a detailed description of pelvic floor anatomy, with special attention to the development of pelvic floor structures in children. She then discusses the normal development of bowel and bladder function, as well as defecation. Learn more

How can a clinician taking on pelvic floor patients for the first time keep all of the terminology around anatomy, conditions and diagnoses strait? In this course, Dawn Sandalcidi will help the participant to learn terminology from the International Children's Continence Society to better align themselves with up-to-date research and clinical practice. The course begins by providing standardization of terms for different diagnoses common in the pediatric pelvic floor rehabilitation arena. Dawn Sandalcidi then introduces common conditions and diagnoses that pediatric pelvic floor practitioners commonly see. The course concludes with two chapters taking a closer look at two of these conditions: Neurogenic Bladder, and Vesicoureteral Reflux. Learn more
