About the Norton School
Lymphedema is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed and under-treated comorbidities associated with cancer treatment and survivorship. The mission of the Norton School is to fill these voids with current research-based and empirically-derived lesson plans. The partnership between the Norton School and MedBridge allows for effective disseminaton of best practices to improve patient care and outcomes. Steve Norton's Courses
Video Runtime: 70 Minutes; Learning Assessment Runtime: 30 Minutes
In this course, Steve Norton expands on the fundamentals of lymphedema to address proper therapy standards, precautions and applications of complete decongestive therapy (CDT). He further addresses serious concerns to patients and practitioners including the risk factors for lymphedema and risk reduction, as well as the benefits to early intervention. In this course, the instructor will meet with Vera, a long-term lymphedema patient, to learn about her treatment, what made it successful, and what red flags were identified early on in the process. Upon completion of this course, the participant will understand how to successfully and knowledgeably manage care of the lymphedema patient. Learn more
Video Runtime: 120 Minutes; Learning Assessment Runtime: 30 Minutes
In this course, Steve Norton will discuss the fundamentals of lymphology and lymphedema diagnosis. The course will start with anatomy, describing the various physical structures that comprise the superficial deep lymphatic anatomy, including the functional attributes of lymph vessels and nodes and the process of uptake and transport of lymphatic fluid from the moment of formation until its return to the central blood circulation. This course will then move on to discuss the pathophysiology and diagnosis of lymphedema. The user will understand lymphedema as a pathology and appreciate the importance of accurate staging of lymphedema for proper interventions. Learn more
