Why is OT important in home health? According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, "Improving the quality and affordability of care received by Americans is... a core pillar of the Affordable Care Act. The Administration is working to ensure that Americans receive better care; that we spend our health care dollars more wisely; and that we have healthier communities, a healthier economy, and ultimately, a healthier country." Occupational therapy facilitates these aims within home health teams and communities. This course will provide OT practitioners education to provide quality, ethical evaluations and treatments within a home health context.

1. Home Health Interventions

This chapter provides an overview of the Person-Environment-Occupation model and evidence-based practices. Also covered is how to effectively manage scheduling clients and integrate telephone communication with them. The role of the dynamic between the client and caregiver will be discussed.

2. Understanding the Paperwork Process for OTs in HH

This chapter provides instruction on daily notes in home health, explains reassessments, and reviews discharge planning.

3. Team Collaboration and Enhancing Communication

This chapter reviews secure ways to communicate electronically, the value of joint visits and coordinating with aides. Therapists will understand how to enhance team meetings and case conferences. The importance of knowing the role of the RN in home health and communicating with them is also covered.

4. Working Together: COTAs and OTRs in HH

This chapter differentiates what a COTA's role is in home health versus an OTR. The value of a COTA and OTR working together is highlighted with communication tips included.

5. Q&A with Home Health Expert

This chapter includes a Q&A session with a home health expert to expand on topics discussed throughout the course.
