Illinois law requires annual sexual harassment training on how to recognize and prevent sexual harassment. This course will provide health care professionals with mandatory training for recognizing, preventing, and managing sexual harassment situations. State and federal laws will be covered, including the Illinois Sexual Harassment Law, the Illinois Human Rights Act, and the Illinois Whistleblower Act. In addition to discussing examples of sexual harassment and contributing factors in health care, the course will address the effect of harassment on the victim, the organization, and patient care. Lastly, the course will thoroughly review recommended actions, procedures, and safety protocols surrounding retaliation, prevention, and intervention in a workplace environment.
This course is applicable to all settings and for health care professionals in athletic training, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and social work.

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Current State of Sexual Harassment
This chapter will explore the definition of sexual harassment and the associated state and federal laws to provide the health care professional with a foundational understanding of legal requirements. Harassment types, behaviors, causes, and environments will also be discussed.
2. Actions and Resources to Address Sexual Harassment
This chapter will provide the health care professional with knowledge of resources available and actions to take as the targeted victim, including documentation, communication, and confrontation of the offender. This chapter will also cover the role of the bystander, retaliation and reporting, and the whistleblower protection and law.
3. Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
This chapter examines workplace harassment, including risk factors, effects, and roles and responsibilities of employers and those in managerial roles. This chapter will discuss implementing sexual harassment training, investigation, and prevention in an organization, as well as the impact that sexual harassment can have on the organization, from culture to patient care. Prevention strategies are discussed from a systems perspective.
