Comprehensive Assessment of Functional Dysphagia

Description

The webinar presentation will provide an overview of functional dysphagia, its current diagnostic criteria, its risk factors, and the components of a comprehensive evaluation. It will cover the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition Text Revision (DSM-5-TR) criteria for
functional neurologic disorders (FND) and the Rome Foundation criteria for functional dysphagia. Topics will include the modern understanding of determinants for functional disorders, including gut–brain interaction, cortical changes, and the biopsychosocial model. These concepts will then be applied in a demonstration of a comprehensive evaluation. This webinar will highlight multidisciplinary assessments to achieve an exclusionary diagnosis, and the identification of positive clinical features to achieve an inclusionary diagnosis.

Following the presentation, audience members will have a chance to submit and have their questions answered by the presenter during the live Q&A session.
