The Athlete’s Hip: Evaluation of Groin Pain

The evaluation and rehabilitation of hip injuries in the athlete is a complicated and often misunderstood area of sports medicine. This course will take you through an evidence-based evaluation of groin injuries in this patient population with an emphasis on femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, athletic pubalgia, and less common pathologies (ligamentum teres, extra-articular impingement, etc.). By understanding the current literature and available evaluation techniques, you will be better able to simplify your evaluation and clinical reasoning when an athlete presents with groin pain.

    The Athlete’s Hip: Return to Sport

    Return to sport is a very complicated decision, and for pathologies of the hip, this becomes even more convoluted due to the paucity of research in this region. Multiple factors can influence readiness for return to sport, from fear of reinjury to performance during functional testing. These factors will be discussed in an easy-to-implement framework to aid the clinician’s confidence in returning their athlete with hip pain to sport.

    Body Temperature Assessment for Exertional Heat Stroke
    presented by Susan Yeargin

    This course will provide an in-depth focus on how to examine a patient for exertional heat stroke (EHS). This will include differential diagnosis from other conditions that could present as EHS, central nervous system dysfunction assessment, and body temperature assessment. Body temperature assessment will focus predominately on the use of rectal thermometry; including policy development, implementation, and specific clinical setting barriers with solutions.     Strength and Conditioning in Sports
    presented by Susan Falsone

    This course is designed to give the physical therapist a fundamental understanding of strength and conditioning. Susan Falsone will review basic muscle physiology and energy systems and apply metabolic and structural adaptations to both aerobic and anaerobic exercise training. Multiple demonstrations and lectures will thoroughly explore testing modalities for aerobic capacity, strength, power and agility. The participant will learn how to design and implement physiologically based aerobic and anaerobic training programs. Learn more

Concussion often results in a multitude of symptoms, deficits in cognitive function and impairment in the vestibular and visual systems.
