1. Why Manage Risk Factors?
Patients experience pain or an injury that prevents them from doing what they love to do and then they get treatment. In most cases, pain is the only signal patients recognize as a need to get help. But what if they could be more proactive? What if they could anticipate their need for treatment before experiencing a problem?
2. What Risk Factors Are Most Important?
While researchers have identified modifiable musculoskeletal risk factors, patients often do not know how to recognize when they could benefit from treatment. This chapter covers the major risk factors for major musculoskeletal conditions.
3. How Do You Screen Risk Factors Using a Self-Screen?
This chapter covers the development and detail of each component of the self-movement screen. Progression/regression of screens and scoring of the self-screen is discussed in detail including the Deep Squat, Toe Touch, Rotation, Shoulder Mobility, Balance and Reach, Shoulder Extension Clearing, Joint Mobility Testing, and the Breathing Screen.
4. What Do the Results of the Self-Screen Mean?
This chapter will cover the results that your client will receive and the associated recommendations. For example, if there is pain with any component of the self-screen, a health care referral is recommended.
