1. Literature Review for Falls and Perturbation-Based Balance Training (PBBT)
This chapter will provide a comprehensive review of the priority and latest literature regarding the importance of PBBT. This will include a variety of diagnoses and the impact of the different types of implementation of PBBT.
2. Outcome Measures to Utilize With Perturbation-Based Balance Training
This chapter will provide a comprehensive review of all of the relevant standardized outcome measures that can be used to assess a person’s appropriateness for PBBT. The performance of each measure will be discussed and/or demonstrated to allow ease of replication. The appropriate level of patient will also be incorporated. In addition, documentation strategies and suggestions will be reviewed for optimal reimbursement.
3. Review of a One-Session PBBT Option
This chapter will review the literature on the potential benefits of performing a one-session PBBT intervention. This will include the varying ways to provide this type of session and the possible results.
4. Aging Adult Case Examples
Video cases for a variety of aging adults will be presented. Utilization of the Rate of Perceived Stability Scale will be incorporated into a circuit training design, using activities that emphasize anticipatory and reactive interventions.
5. iSCI Case Examples
Video cases for a variety of people with incomplete spinal cord injuries (iSCIs) will be presented. Emphasizing the results from the outcome measures performed in this chapter will align the interventions with the priorities seen in the outcomes while emphasizing the patient’s functional interest.
6. CVA Case Examples
Video cases for a variety of people with CVA will be presented. An example of an intervention design will utilize the Activities-Specific Balance Confidence (ABC) Scale. In addition, options to increase safe challenges in the home with affordable and portable equipment will be provided.
7. Question and Answer Session
This chapter is a question and answer session. The question and answer session is facilitated by J.J. Mowder-Tinney.
