1. Case 1: Etiology Matters

This chapter presents a case study of a patient whose swallow function did not improve despite treatment from multiple disciplines. This case will highlight the need to fully understand the underlying etiology affecting swallowing physiology when developing treatment plans.

2. Case 2: Physiology Matters

Targeting the correct pathophysiology when developing a treatment plan for individuals with dysphagia is critical. This case will highlight a situation in which treatment focused on symptoms rather than pathophysiology.

3. Case 3: Patient Readiness Matters

Patients who undergo surgical management of head and neck cancer must learn to adapt to a new normal. This case will highlight how patient expectations and clinician expectations often differ, impacting treatment outcomes.
