This course provides an overview of the cleaning and disinfection process used for medical devices and equipment in a healthcare facility. It covers basic information about pathogens common in the healthcare environment, the Spaulding Classification system and defines the terms, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization. The course also outlines how devices and equipment are reprocessed, as well as labeling and handling best practices. Finally, the course includes a brief discussion of medical devices in the home and some considerations to discuss with patients or caregivers.
