In this course, the third in the Dementia Care Basics series, learners will explore factors that impact communication ability in people with dementia, and how as the disease progresses, behavior becomes a form of communication. Additionally, this course includes information on the psychological symptoms of dementia, as well as person-centered strategies for managing behavior commonly thought of as challenging, such as wandering, hoarding, rummaging and disturbed sleep. The Dementia Care Basics series is created in alignment with the CMS conditions of participation for long term care facilities and section 6121 of the Affordable Care Act.
