Transmission of human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, to healthcare workers is rare. Yet, it is important to use standard infection control measures to prevent potential exposure.

In this course, you’ll learn basic information for all healthcare staff about HIV and acquired immunodeficiency (AIDS) and how the virus can pass from one person to another. The course will address ways to prevent exposure in healthcare settings and steps to take if you have occupational exposure. Finally, you will learn about the rights of people with HIV, including HIV confidentiality, and the importance of creating a respectful environment.

This course helps meet the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens Standard 29 CFR § 1910.1030, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on hand hygiene and disinfection and sterilization, and regulations for HIV/AIDS training in states that do not require a specific course length.
