Video Runtime: 21 Minutes, Learning Assessments: 47 Minutes

This course will address the concepts used for return-to-work planning for workers presenting with concussion-related symptoms following a mild traumatic head injury. Return-to-work planning should involve the clinical team as you work together to address the patient's capabilities and compare their functional level with their job demands. Communication should also include the employer and case adjustor to allow for a smooth transition back to work. Return-to-work strategies should address the physical, cognitive, and environmental aspects of the worker's job. This course will help therapists understand the levels of activity participation and functional progress that will lead to a safe return to work. We will also focus on addressing patient concerns and providing education to allow them to progress through their recovery and promote an optimal return-to-work outcome.

Video Runtime: 36 Minutes, Learning Assessments: 46 Minutes

This course will address the specific referral and evaluation of injured workers presenting with mild traumatic head injury. The workers' compensation population presents us with a unique opportunity to promote collaboration with medical clinicians to identify workers who are appropriate for therapy intervention and to create a pathway to provide early physical therapy for clinical management. Evaluation of workers with concussion includes a comprehensive review of the cervical spine, vestibulo-oculomotor function, positional vestibular function, balance/motor function, and aerobic capacity. This course will provide the therapist with knowledge in performing an evaluation of this patient population and increase their comfort level in communicating with medical clinicians to allow for appropriate collaboration in determining a plan for return to work.
