This brief course focuses on emergency action planning for fire prevention. The featured scenario highlights how to respond to a fire emergency, including evacuation procedures and appropriate use of a multipurpose ABC fire extinguisher. Additional training is provided on fire extinguishers, potential hazards, and good housekeeping practices. The course concludes with a learner-selected split pathway that addresses other important ways to plan and prepare that are specific to outpatient clinic, hospital, skilled nursing facility, and home health settings.

This course is designed to help organizations meet OSHA annual training requirements on the proper use of portable fire extinguishers per 42 CFR §1910.157(g). It is also in alignment with the regulatory standards outlined in 42 CFR §1910.38 and 42 CFR §41910.39 related to employee information and training on fire prevention and emergency action plans, and with the fire safety requirements in hospitals and long-term care facilities specified in 42 CFR §482.41(b) and 42 CFR §483.90(a).
