Regulatory compliance is an essential part of healthcare operations. All members of an organization have a vital role to play in upholding professional and organizational integrity and delivering the highest standard of patient care. This short course provides a practical guide to understanding and implementing a strong healthcare compliance program. Learners will explore the Office of Inspector General's seven core elements for effective compliance, review real examples of key risk areas susceptible to fraud and abuse, and practice how to act against noncompliance in healthcare.
Course Objectives
1. Identify the seven core elements of an effective compliance program as outlined by the Office of Inspector General (OIG)
2. Recognize potential scenarios of noncompliance and fraud in healthcare settings
3. Apply the appropriate steps for reporting and responding to suspected noncompliance
4. Evaluate the importance of a strong compliance program in delivering high-quality patient care
This module is designed to be a refresher course for annual retraining and/or for the initial training of experienced staff across healthcare settings. The course has been certified by ACHC, and it was also designed in alignment with the Joint Commission and CHAP. It provides education to help Medicare Advantage organizations, Part D plan sponsors, and managed care organizations that contract with state Medicaid agencies to meet the following federal regulations related to general compliance and training:
