Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services Along the Care Continuum

This course provides comprehensive training to equip healthcare staff with essential skills for delivering culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) at each stage of patient care, from intake to discharge. The course is designed for both clinical and nonclinical administrative staff, with the option to select a separate learning pathway depending on the individual learner’s role. It focuses on practical strategies to incorporate CLAS, with quoted examples of how to interact and communicate with patients, focusing on understanding patient needs, beliefs, and preferences and effectively communicating these within the care team. Moreover, it emphasizes understanding and addressing literacy challenges, fostering clear communication and active patient participation for improved health outcomes.

Course Objectives
1. Define and understand the concept of culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) in a healthcare context
2. Develop practical strategies to incorporate CLAS principles throughout patient care, from intake to discharge
3. Enhance skills for understanding and addressing patient needs, beliefs, and preferences in a culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate manner
4. Learn effective techniques for communicating patient needs within the healthcare team and fostering an inclusive, respectful environment
5. Understand health literacy challenges, and adopt strategies to promote clear communication and active patient engagement for improved health outcomes
