Restraints have a long history in healthcare. Although progress has been made in reducing their use, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and other organizations continue to work to reduce restraints in long-term care. Residents have the right to be free of unnecessary restraints.
In this course, you’ll learn what a restraint is and the main types you may encounter in long-term care. The course will address why it is important to reduce their use and the limited circumstances in which they may be allowed. Finally, we’ll explore practices that build a restraint-free environment.
This course helps meet the regulatory standards outlined in the requirements for long-term care facilities 42 CFR § 483.10(e)(1), 483.12, 483.45(d),(e)(1) and (e)(3).
Estimated Runtime: 15 minutes
