Presented by Anne Harrison, PT, PhD
Evaluation and Diagnostic Classification of TMD
In addition to the physical examination of the masticatory system learned in Course One, the discerning therapist will need to perform a systems screen for common conditions that can cause orofacial pain but may require interprofessional referral. In Course Two, a systems screen will be presented along with information about the role of the cervical spine in orofacial pain. This information will be integrated with the examination of the masticatory system from Course One to describe the evaluation and diagnostic classification necessary to form the optimal plan of care and/or make an interprofessional referral.

Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders and Headache
Physical therapists have a central role in the interprofessional team or as the primary practitioner providing care for people with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and other orofacial pain. The two previous courses focused on examination and evaluation of people presenting with TMD and other more common orofacial pains encountered by the general practitioner. In this course, the physical therapist will gain the information to form the optimal plan of care based on the patient's treatment classification and informed by the current best evidence.
Orofacial Pain: Introduction, History and Examination

Orofacial Pain: Introduction, History and Examination
Is diagnostic classification of patients with orofacial pain outside of your skill set? Physical therapists (PTs) have a central role in the interprofessional team providing care for people with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and other orofacial pain. Diagnostic classification is challenging given the complexities inherent in this patient population, yet such classification is essential in targeting appropriate interventions. In this course the physical therapist instructor will provide an overview of the examination approach that will lead to a diagnostic classification that targets optimal management approaches for patients with orofacial pain.
