Chapters & learning objectives
1. Introduction to Advanced Spinal Pathologies
Spinal pathologies present a diagnostic and management dilemma for clinicians as many clinical guidelines suggest that determining a specific pathological cause for low back pain is difficult, if not impossible. This chapter will review some of the basis for this difficulty and define when specific diagnostic efforts should be pursued.
2. Serious Spinal Pathologies
This chapter reviews those components of spinal pain presentations that fall into serious pathologies. The review will include risk factors, clinical presentation, and triage for disorders best managed by someone else.
3. Degenerative Spinal Pathologies
This chapter reviews degenerative spinal pathologies often associated with aging. Spinal stenosis will be particularly discussed.
4. Spinal Pathologies Potpourri
This chapter reviews a collection of spinal pathologies commonly encountered in health settings, ranging from acute injury to insidious or genetic conditions.
