When basic treatment approaches (therapeutic discussions, skill building, or consequences) are insufficiently effective, environmental change will work to achieve behavioral control. Neuropsychosocial Intervention is an environmental treatment method based on understanding the causes of the behavior (the phenomenology of dyscontrol) and addressing the behavior with environmental change. This course will explain crucial variables that drive behavior and how to make changes that eliminate the troublesome behaviors. This course is Part 4 of a four-part series of courses on behavioral dyscontrol following brain injury.

1. Advanced Behavioral Dyscontrol Intervention: The Phenomenology of Dyscontrol
To effectively alter behavior, it is crucial that the cause of the behavior be determined. Behaviors will stop when the causes of the behaviors are treated. The goal of this chapter is to explain the nature of the drivers of behavior and their role in changing behavior.
2. Advanced Behavioral Dyscontrol Intervention: Neuropsychosocial Intervention
An environmental treatment intervention can work when other procedures fail. Such an intervention targets the etiology of the behavior and eliminates the reasons that sustained the behavior. The goal of this chapter is to explain environmental neuropsychosocial intervention, the variables to be manipulated, and the nature of neuropsychosocial care plans.
