Many graduate school programs don’t address postextubation respiratory failure and swallowing status, leaving SLP graduates underprepared for the responsibilities they may be tasked with. This webinar will help close the gap between graduate school and effective practice with an extensive review of the respiratory system, respiratory disease, and respiratory failure, benefiting SLPs who manage dysphagia in critical illness environments. Additionally, we will discuss effective approaches to assess and manage dysphagia after extubation, as well as research-based approaches and clinical problem-solving in a relevant case study. This presentation will provide a foundation of information related to the respiratory system and respiratory disease, theoretical frameworks for effective clinical care delivery, and practical takeaways that medical SLPs can use in their own practice immediately.
