This course covers the evaluation and treatment of anxiety and mood symptoms after a concussion. Using a case study, participants will apply symptom assessments and evidence-based interventions to improve emotional regulation and daily function. This course provides practical tools for concussion recovery.
Learning Objectives
- Apply an evidence-based evaluation framework, including clinical practice guidelines, symptom monitoring tools, and functional assessments, to assess individuals with a primary concussion symptom profile of anxiety/mood
- Examine intervention strategies using a case-study approach to guide treatment progression for individuals experiencing anxiety/mood-related concussion symptoms
- Analyze case-study findings in relation to clinical practice guidelines and expert opinion to enhance clinical decision-making
- Determine priorities for treatment progression and documentation recommendations to support interdisciplinary collaboration and reimbursement
- Plan a structured intervention approach incorporating patient education, symptom management, and graded return-to-activity strategies to facilitate return to meaningful occupations

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Concept Review and Evaluation
This chapter reviews key concussion concepts, symptom profiles, and assessment strategies. Participants will explore the Concussion Clinical Profiles Screening (CP Screen) Tool, Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), and other tools to identify and prioritize patient needs.
2. Intervention
This chapter introduces evidence-based intervention approaches, including education, activity pacing, subsymptom threshold training, and anxiety management techniques. Participants will learn how to integrate goal-directed therapy, cognitive behavioral strategies, and graded activity progression to improve patient outcomes.
3. Outcomes and Summary
Through a case study, this chapter demonstrates how structured evaluation and treatment can improve symptom management, emotional well-being, and return to daily activities. It also highlights clinical decision-making, documentation, and long-term rehabilitation planning.
