This course will explore and explain the various blowing devices that can be utilized in working with the breath with children. The various resistance levels and importance will be discussed. The use of external support will also be discussed and demonstrated. Two live cases will be presented to demonstrate the practical application of the assessment and treatment techniques that have been presented in the previous courses.

Assessment

1. Assessment

This chapter will outline the components of an assessment. The assessment includes taking a history from the parent which includes early feeding patterns, medical history, and any current issues related to breathing. Mobilization of the rib cage, breathing patterns, postural alignment, and muscle usage will be explored. At the end of the assessment, the findings will be explained.

2. Case Study: Child With Down Syndrome - History

This chapter will demonstrate how to take a history from a parent of a child with Down syndrome. The history will include medical issues as an infant or young child. The child’s current medical status will also be explored. Any significant findings will be explained.

This chapter will demonstrate an assessment followed by an explanation of the findings. The assessment will include determining the predominant breathing pattern, rib mobility, and muscle usage. Compensatory muscle usage patterns will be explained.
