This course provides a comprehensive overview of therapeutic compression as part of effective edema management within the manual edema mobilization framework. The course will review principles of compression, how compression influences edema reduction through understanding of physiology, different types of compression options from short-stretch wraps to garments, and demonstration of wrap techniques. This is an appropriate course for occupational therapists and physiotherapists treating individuals with upper extremity trauma and with an intact lymphatic system. The information provided will aid therapists in clinical decision-making. The course will include case studies, interviews with a clinical expert, and lab demonstrations.

1. Lymphatics Review
This chapter provides foundational knowledge of the lymphatic system, how the application of appropriate compression type can influence the system, and how that leads to more effective edema reduction. It introduces compression as one of the tenets of manual edema mobilization (MEM).
2. Compression Therapy: Types
In this chapter, clinicians will appreciate that the term "compression" refers to numerous treatment choices. The differing compression options can be categorized into either short-stretch or long-stretch wraps or garments. By understanding these differences, clinicians can provide more effective treatment.
3. Compression Therapy: Rules to Live By
Two guiding principles of the use and application of compression will be discussed in this chapter. These two principles are Laplace’s law and Pascal’s law, and appreciating these principles guides compression application.
4. Compression Therapy: Hand and Forearm Demonstrations
This chapter includes demonstrations of short-stretch wrap techniques for the digits, hand, forearm, and full arm. Clinical applications are discussed as well as case studies.
