Accreditation Check:

This course examines the six subtypes of sensory processing disorder (SPD) and distinguishes sensory related behavior for modulations disorder, which impacts regulation and attention, sensory-based motor disorder, which impacts success with functional motor coordination tasks, and sensory discrimination disorder, which impacts academic learning. Current SPD neuroscience research will be examined for evidence-based practices in SPD. Learners will develop a repertoire of practical and easy-to-implement sensory strategies they can use immediately with children.

1. Sensory Processing Disorder

In the first chapter of this course, Jenny Clark examines current neuroscience support for sensory processing disorder (SPD). Participants will learn to assimilate a battery of assessments to clearly identify SPD for effective intervention planning. They will review evidence-based practices for occupational therapy using a sensory integration approach (OT-SI).

2. Subtypes of Sensory Processing Disorder

Jenny Clark identifies six subtypes of sensory processing disorder. Participants will learn to distinguish characteristics and signs & symptoms for SPD subtypes. Clark explores case examples of SPD subtypes for symptoms, treatment, and clinical results.

3. Sensory Diet

Chapter 3 reviews the components of a sensory diet. Participants will learn to develop a repertoire of alerting, modulating, and calming sensory strategies. Jenny Clark demonstrates how to utilize techniques and resources for sensory self-regulation in children.
