Emergency Preparedness in Home Health

This course is designed to prepare staff for emergency and disaster situations in the home setting. Learners will explore steps they can take to help patients and clients to prepare for an emergency in their home. These elements include: the operation of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, home evacuation plans, first aid and emergency supply kits, and many other essential elements for preparing and responding to emergency and disaster situations.

Objectives:
1) Learn how to prepare for emergencies in the home health setting
2) Understand requirements for emergency preparedness plans in the home health setting
3) Review preparation and response to selected emergencies more frequently encountered in home health, including fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies

This course has been certified by ACHC, and verified to align with CHAP Home Health Standards of Excellence in emergency preparedness (EP). It also provides training to help organizations meet the following federal regulation related to home health services:
