This course is designed to prepare staff for emergency and disaster situations in the home setting. Learners will explore steps they can take to help patients and clients to prepare for an emergency in their home. These elements include: the operation of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, home evacuation plans, first aid and emergency supply kits, and many other essential elements for preparing and responding to emergency and disaster situations.

Objectives:
1) Learn how to prepare for emergencies in the home health setting
2) Understand requirements for emergency preparedness plans in the home health setting
3) Review preparation and response to selected emergencies more frequently encountered in home health, including fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies
