Chapters & learning objectives
1. The Basics of IASTM: History, Histology, and Research
In this chapter, we will review the historical origins, basic histology, and research of IASTM to support its use in the clinic. We will review basic construction characteristics in choosing IASTM tools for the lower quarter, including treatment edges, materials, and tool shapes, and discuss the pros and cons associated with their use.
2. Lab Techniques: Hip and Knee
In this chapter, we will review how to perform IASTM, including choosing direction of force, angle of application, treatment dosing (time), and treatment progression through superficial to deeper layers. Participants will review lab techniques applicable for treatment of the hip and knee.
3. Lab Techniques: Lower Leg, Ankle, and Foot
In this chapter, participants will review lab techniques applicable for treatment of the lower leg, ankle, and foot.
4. Scar Techniques, Practical Integration, and Summary
In this chapter, we will discuss treatment of surgical scars associated with the lower quarter and time considerations in treating these scars. We will review the five steps of successful practice integration of IASTM and, in summary, discuss the clinical reasoning and rationale for IASTM.
