Chapters & learning objectives
1. Overview: Analyzing the Behavior, Formulating Your Hypothesis, and Devising a Plan
This chapter will look at analyzing the behavior to start to develop an intervention plan. We will review criteria in order to objectively identify the behavior of concern and define it in objective terms. We will discuss guidelines for prioritizing the behaviors to be addressed and begin to look at general guidelines for intervention. Participants will complete page one of the Analyzing Behavior Worksheet (ABW) using the video case study.
2. Defining Your Hypothesis: What Is the Underlying Function of the Behavior?
In this chapter, we will formulate our hypothesis of the function(s) of the behavior, pulling together information from all of our previous courses. The more accurate our hypothesis is of the function the behavior serves, the more effective our interventions will be. We will identify sensory-based interventions and begin to identify an intervention plan of preventatives and skill development. We will also complete page two of the Analyzing Behavior Worksheet using the video case study.
3. Replacement Behaviors and Developing Our Intervention Plan
With our hypothesis in hand, we will develop our intervention plan, establishing our replacement behaviors and identifying preventatives that must be in place, skills that need to be developed, and reinforcements/consequences. Participants will complete page three of the Analyzing Behavior Worksheet (ABW) using the video case study.
