In today’s fast-paced healthcare environment, practitioners often have limited access to one-on-one mentorship opportunities that support professional growth and clinical development. This course recreates the invaluable mentorship experience of a clinical instructor, residency, or fellowship program by taking practitioners step-by-step through the evaluation and treatment of hip pain. The course is case based, and each case offers different levels of complexity, giving both new graduates and experienced clinicians relevant insights they can apply immediately. Designed to simulate real mentorship, the course walks learners through subjective and objective assessments, hypothesis formulation, and intervention selection within a structured decision-making framework. It is ideal for any practitioner looking to improve clinical reasoning, refine orthopedic skills, and achieve a higher level of clinical proficiency.
Learning Outcomes
- Determine strategies for gathering a detailed patient history by analyzing a subjective exam, enhancing your clinical reasoning skills
- Determine effective objective exam techniques by viewing tests and measures, improving your ability to identify physical impairments and functional limitations
- Plan effective treatment strategies by observing interventions, enhancing your approach to patient care, to increase patient participation in daily activities
- Implement strategies for synthesizing subjective, objective, and intervention data to enhance clinical reasoning and decision-making
- Apply the latest research to patient cases by observing evidence-based practice

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Introduction
This chapter introduces the mentorship format, learning outcomes, and clinical framework used to approach hip pain conditions. Learners are oriented to the step-by-step structure of the case-based analysis and the integration of clinical practice guidelines in orthopedic care.
2. Case #1: John
This chapter introduces the first patient, a 67-year-old male with chronic anterior/lateral hip pain. You will engage in the case with the instructor (your mentor) and will actively problem-solve the case using a series of polling questions. You will then use clinical reasoning to link subjective and objective information to provide optimal interventions for the patient.
3. Case #2: Sue
This chapter introduces the second patient, a 35-year-old female with anterior hip pain. You will engage in the case with the instructor (your mentor) and will actively problem-solve the case using a series of polling questions. You will then use clinical reasoning to link subjective and objective information to provide optimal interventions for the patient.
