Plantar heel pain can be a highly challenging condition to treat for a clinician and a highly debilitating condition that interferes with normal gait and exercise for a patient or athlete. In this course, assessment and treatment strategies will be explored in light of current evidence regarding the most effective strategies to alleviate plantar heel pain due to fasciosis. Manual therapy strategies will highlight the application of the Graston Technique® as it is applied dynamically and under load. Therapeutic exercises will be included that target the posterior fascial chain of connective tissue, taking into account current evidence regarding tendinosis exercise progressions. The 4x4 matrix will be utilized to guide exercise selection, position, and load.

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Pathophysiology and Differential Diagnosis of Plantar Heel Pain
The etiology and biomechanical factors that cause plantar fasciosis will be covered in this chapter. Evidence-based evaluative techniques and the differential diagnosis of plantar heel pain based on available research are included.
2. Manual Therapy Highlighting the Use of Graston Technique®
The physiological effects and benefits of manual therapy for the treatment of plantar heel pain that has been identified in the literature will be explored in this chapter. Video demonstrations of the Graston Technique in an applied static and dynamic maneuvers and under progressive load are included.
3. Therapeutic Exercise Interventions for Plantar Fasciosis
This chapter will review the evidence-based guidelines for treating tendinopathies such as plantar fasciosis. Video demonstrations of typical exercise progressions are highlighted. Exercises that are included will follow the guidelines for progressive loading as specified in current literature and be applied according to a 4x4 matrix of developmental postures with assistance, load, and resistance.
