The acronym EMBID (endocrine, metabolic, bone and immune disorders) highlights a relationship between disparate bodily systems. In this intermediate course, disorders of the endocrine system, skeletal system, and even neoplasm are discussed together to deepen the physical therapist’s understanding of the relationships that exist between these seemingly disparate entities.
Learning Objectives
- Examine the most common endocrine conditions and how they influence the musculoskeletal system
- Analyze a clinical scenario for risk factors that may indicate action based on concerns about the integrity of the skeletal system
- Implement fracture screening and examination tests to identify someone with a current fracture
- Recommend a course of action using the IFOMPT Red Flags Framework based on clinical presentations that suggest the possibility of neoplasm
