Relative Motion: Not Just an Orthosis (Recorded Webinar)

Relative motion (RM) has become a popular concept in hand therapy and is more than just an orthosis. It involves understanding and incorporating the anatomical relationship between an involved digit and the adjacent digits. The RM concept was first applied to zone V extensor tendon repairs but has now been incorporated into a variety of conditions including sagittal band injuries, boutonniere deformities, digit stiffness, flexor tendon repairs, and other conditions. This webinar will review the evidence and demonstrate RM concepts with orthoses for a variety of conditions. Therapists treating these conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings will benefit from this webinar.

- Apply the concepts of relative motion to an extensor tendon repair
- Implement the fabrication of a relative motion orthosis for a specific condition in order to facilitate improved patient participation in daily activities
- Determine the correct digit position in a relative motion orthosis relative to the adjacent digits based on the condition
