Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the evidence around coverage standards guiding the initiation, continuation, modification, and discharge of skilled rehabilitation for people with Huntington’s disease, particularly when maintaining function or slowing functional decline is the expected outcome. 
  • Apply evidence-based, practical strategies to actionably address ethically sound strategies to identify skilled need, select stage-appropriate functional outcomes, engage patients and care partners in shared decision-making, and document medical necessity. 
  • Solve patient case scenarios involving clinical benefit, safety, patient autonomy, caregiver capacity, and payer requirements to determine whether PT, OT, or SLP services should continue, change, transition to consultation, or discharge.
