Discharge and Return to Sport Part 3: Upper Body
Presented by Phil Plisky
Upper-body injury brings increased complexity as the mobility and stability demands of the upper extremity are extreme. Unfortunately, there has not been nearly as much published research on upper-body discharge and return-to-sport testing as the lower body. This course presents the available research and describes a systematic, evidenced-based approach to upper-extremity testing that will leave your patients with a safe return to activity. The course also explores the unique challenges and research regarding the overhead athlete. This course is for physical therapists, athletic trainers, and occupational therapists. This course is for physical therapists, athletic trainers, and occupational therapists.

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Discharge and Return-to-Sport Testing Introduction: Upper Body
While there is limited research on upper extremity discharge and return-to-sport testing, there is substantial evidence about risk factors for injury, particularly with the overhead athlete.
2. Upper Body Closed Kinetic Chain Testing
While most upper-extremity function occurs in the open kinetic chain, closed kinetic chain testing can provide essential information about the mobility and stability of the upper extremity.
3. Upper Body Power Testing
The ability to generate upper-extremity power is important for function and sport performance. This chapter explores the research and how to perform power testing in the upper body.
