1. The Flu, Meningitis, and Pneumonia
Dr. Todd Arnold provides the participant with basic background knowledge on infectious diseases including the flu, meningitis, infectious mononucleosis, and pneumonia. For each of these diseases, he provides detail on the forms of transmission, symptoms, treatment, and prevention.
2. Skin and Blood-borne Infections
Skin and blood-borne infections may result in complex challenges and complicated discussions for the sports therapist. The participant will leave this chapter with a solid understanding of skin and blood-borne infections including MRSA, HIV, and Hepatitis B.
3. Maintenance and Universal Precautions
How does the sports therapist approach the difficult topic of maintenance and prevention against infections diseases? Dr. Arnold describes universal precautions to best prepare the sports therapist to approach potentially complex administrative issues related to preventing infectious disease transmission.
4. Case Study
In this final chapter, Dr. Arnold applies the principles of the lecture to a case example. Test your knowledge and observe patient interactions in a conversation centered around infectious disease.
