This chapter explains the cognitive behavioral approach to long-term pain management care, particularly in patients with chronic pain. This chapter will help the clinician understand the mind-body connection and the skills to foster in patients to improve the patients' coping methods. This chapter also discusses the principles of distraction and presence.
2. Complementary and Alternative Methods: Acupuncture, Chiropractic, and Massage
This chapter explores the neurobiology of traditional acupuncture/pressure, needling techniques, and the use of chiropractic alignment. This chapter will present an overview of techniques that the interdisciplinary team members can facilitate for their patient population, including the use of therapeutic touch/massage to maximize pain relief.
