It will cover a review of the peripheral and central nervous system modulation of pain. This course will delve deeper into nociception and pain sensations, inflammatory mediators, pain pathways, and hyperalgesia. This chapter will also differentiate the types of pain mechanisms (visceral, somatic, and neuropathic) and acute versus chronic pain definitions.
2. Multimodal Pain Management
This chapter will explain the concepts of multimodal pain management and review the neurophysiology that supports this approach. This chapter will explain the rationale for using different types of medications based on the neurophysiological principles for different types of pain. In addition, the chapter will discuss an interdisciplinary approach to multimodal pain management.
