Chapters & learning objectives
1. Systemic and Clinical Predictors of Recovery: Early Considerations
The therapist will learn about standardized measures to assess depression, kinesphobia, and joint position sense. Tests to determine intrinsic and extrinsic tightness will be demonstrated. Specific sensory testing will be described.
2. Measuring Function
We will discuss functional outcome measures that have been validated for the population of individuals with distal radius fractures. The Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation, DASH, and Michigan Hand Questionnaire Minimally Clinically Important values will be provided.
3. Optimizing Home Exercise Programs Following Distal Radius Fracture: A Multi-Stage Approach
Research demonstrating the importance of patient education will be discussed. We will examine three themes in relation to patient experiences after sustaining a distal radius fracture, including concerns about dependency, fear and pain, and motivators for recovery, along with strategies to deal with these concerns.
