Mindfulness is often recommended as a helpful supplement for practitioners and patients. However, there is very little training on HOW to incorporate mindfulness-based techniques into our speech therapy practice. This webinar will define mindfulness and address the role of mindfulness within our practice as speech-language-hearing therapists. We will learn and try a variety of mindfulness practices and hear case studies from a professional mindfulness teacher and a fellow speech-language pathologist with experience in working with individuals with communication issues. The webinar will also address how we might build our network of resources and colleagues related to mindfulness-based therapy.

Learning Objectives
  • Define mindfulness as it relates to speech-language therapy
  • List and demonstrate five different mindfulness exercises for building personal mindfulness practice
  • List and demonstrate five different mindfulness exercises for use within clinical sessions
  • Interpret case studies and determine how indirect or direct mindfulness could be utilized to improve client outcomes
  • Select mindfulness activities to help parents and caregivers enhance their care of the patient
  • Locate mindfulness resources and teachers/providers for cultivating mindfulness practice and mindfulness-based therapy practice
