Mounting Assistive Technology to Wheelchairs (Recorded Webinar)
Presented by Michelle L. Lange
This course is a recording of a previously hosted live webinar event. Polling and question submission features are not available for this recording. Format and structure may differ from those of standard Medbridge courses.
For wheelchair users, assistive technologies (AT) such as speech-generating devices (SGDs), computers, tablets, and smartphones play a vital role in communication and daily activities. This session explores effective mounting solutions to securely attach these devices to a wheelchair frame, ensuring optimal visual access, ease of use, safety, and stability. Participants will gain insight into mounting terminology, role delineation in product selection and delivery, strategies for determining ideal mount placement, ordering guidance, and funding considerations. Learn how proper device mounting can enhance assistive technology use, ultimately improving client function and independence.
Learning Objectives
- Determine if a wheelchair mounting system is clinically indicated for an individual
- Determine which components of a wheelchair mounting system are required for an individual
- Analyze optimal placement of assistive technology devices to be mounted relative to the client
- Integrate evidence-based mounting strategies into assistive technology and wheelchair interventions to enhance occupational performance in activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs)
