Join us for an engaging and informative webinar designed specifically for physical and occupational therapists, focusing on the latest rehabilitation techniques following distal radius fractures. Distal radius fractures present a significant challenge in upper extremity rehabilitation, often leading to functional limitations and prolonged recovery times. This course addresses the pressing clinical question: How can we improve recovery outcomes and enhance the quality of life for our patients with these injuries?
Through a combination of compelling case studies and the latest evidence-based practices, attendees will discover innovative treatment interventions tailored to optimize patient outcomes. We will explore recent advancements, common pitfalls, and effective strategies to bridge the existing practice gap in rehabilitation.
Whether you’re working in outpatient clinics, hospitals, or private practice, this webinar is designed to equip you with the practical tools necessary to elevate your clinical practice. Chapters & learning objectives
1. Systemic and Clinical Predictors of Recovery: Early Considerations
The chapter will present current research regarding the impact that patient apprehension, depression, smoking, and renal impairment may have on recovery. Clinical signs of finger stiffness, edema, pain, and CRPS and interventions geared toward the resolution of the conditions will be provided to ensure that the patient receives holistic care.
2. New Evidence-Based Interventions to Improve Range of Motion: Mid-Stage
Evidence and specific instructions regarding the techniques of mobilization with movement, a scapular training program, and exercises performed in the functional arc of motion of the wrist will be provided to the attendee. Additionally, the attendee will gather specific technique instruction regarding gaming to increase forearm strength and understand the importance of including occupation-based interventions in their treatment program. Specific cases will be presented, along with a progression algorithm.
3. Optimizing Home Exercise Programs Following a Distal Radius Fracture: A Multi-Stage Approach
This chapter will provide information regarding the progression of exercises that are prescribed as part of a patient’s home exercise program. Suggestions to improve patient adherence will be addressed. Low cost exercises will be demonstrated.
4. Question and Answer Session
This chapter is a viewer-submitted question and answer session facilitated by the instructor, Kristin Valdes.
