Alison McKenzie

PT, DPT, PhD, FAPTA

Dr. Alison McKenzie received her BS in physical therapy from the University of Utah (magna cum laude); her MA and PhD in anatomy, with a neuroscience emphasis, from the University of California at Berkeley; her postdoctoral training at the Universities of California at Berkeley and San Francisco; and her transitional DPT from Chapman University. As a physical therapist with more than 40 years of experience, she has worked in a variety of clinical practice settings, primarily with adults who have neurological or musculoskeletal conditions. She has also taught anatomy and neuroanatomy for more than 35 years, across undergraduate, graduate health sciences (primarily physical therapist education), medical, and postgraduate programs. She served on the faculty at UC San Francisco prior to joining the Department of Physical Therapy at Chapman University in 1995, where she currently serves as the director of anatomy laboratory operations and is a tenured full professor. She also holds an appointment as a project scientist in the Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine, where she has collaborated with multidisciplinary teams on several research investigations and projects pertaining to stroke over the past 15 years. In addition to her dozens of peer-reviewed papers and presentations, she has received both intramural and extramural funding for her research. She is an APTA Catherine Worthingham Fellow and has received multiple awards for her work. She is a member of the Education, Research, Neurology, and Ortho Academies/Sections of APTA.
