Ventilatory Management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Presented by John Davies, MA, RRT, FAARC, FCCP

Ventilatory Management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Video Runtime: 36 Minutes; Learning Assessment: 37 Minutes

Ventilatory management of the patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can be daunting. Small airway obstruction can change the way a ventilator needs to be managed, along with the added complexity of the involvement of dynamic hyperinflation and intrinsic positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP). This course will provide respiratory therapists working in acute settings with the tools to identify ventilatory management needs specifically for small airway obstruction and how to minimize hyperinflation and intrinsic PEEP through ventilatory management strategies.

Ventilatory Management for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)

Presented by John Davies, MA, RRT, FAARC, FCCP

Ventilatory Management for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.
Video Runtime: 51 Minutes; Learning Assessment: 23 Minutes

Managing a patient with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can be challenging. The key is to identify and treat the underlying cause, if possible. Additionally, the implementation of lung-protective ventilation is key in preventing further pulmonary injury. This course will equip respiratory therapists with the tools to examine how ARDS changes a patient's pulmonary mechanics and subsequently identify and apply conventional and rescue ventilatory strategies for the successful management of ARDS.

Video Runtime: 51 Minutes; Learning Assessment: 23 Minutes

Sedation is often used to facilitate appropriate interaction between the ventilator and patient. However, graphic analysis is an underused tool that could help the clinician optimize patient-ventilator synchrony. The goal of this course is to help respiratory therapists accurately identify patient-ventilator synchrony issues, as well as obtain strategies to alleviate various dyssynchronies.
