1. Introduction
In this chapter, we will define the continuing education requirements for meeting the Florida laws and rules for nursing. The purpose of the Board of Nursing and the laws will be discussed. The definitions pertaining to licensure will be reviewed. An interview with a former Board of Nursing member and a case study will be presented.
2. Florida Licensure: The Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 464
Florida licensure education will be provided regarding the requirements for education, application methods, and other requirements to become a nurse and maintain licensure to work in the state of Florida and the compact states.
3. Scope of Practice and Nursing Standards
Why should there be standards in nursing? Education will be provided on what can happen when there is nonadherence to established standards. This includes the penalties and disciplinary and impaired nursing programs that can be implemented.
4. Florida Nursing Goals
Accurate documentation is a cornerstone of nursing. How it impacts our patients, our colleagues, our organization, and ourselves will be discussed. Methods to implement accurate documentation and mistakes to avoid will be shared.
5. The Florida Center for Nursing
Learn and implement the Florida Center for Nursing goals to attain and maintain the highest standards in nursing to consistently deliver quality care to patients and promote the nursing profession.
