Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) is a common condition that historically has been misunderstood and misdiagnosed. This course reviews current evidence on examination and classification-based treatment of greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Listeners will be able to differentiate GTPS from other hip pain diagnoses. Clinicians will then be able to classify patients with GTPS into specific subtypes and tailor treatment accordingly. While this course is designed for physical therapists pursuing the ABPTS specialty, this course is very applicable for any physical therapist treating adults.
Learning Objectives
- Examine individuals with complaint(s) of lateral hip pain, and distinguish greater trochanteric pain from other causes of hip pain in adult populations
- Categorize patients with greater trochanteric pain syndrome into various subtypes based on clinical examination when treating adults in the orthopedic setting
- Plan and implement effective treatment for specific classifications of greater trochanteric pain among adults with complaint(s) of lateral hip pain
- Choose interventions based on level of irritability in adult patients with greater trochanteric pain syndrome
