This short course provides basic training on electrical safety for the healthcare provider audience. It is designed for employees who work in the vicinity of electrical hazards but do NOT perform servicing or maintenance on electrical devices. It includes information on how to identify common hazards and take precautions, such as inspecting equipment for damage and signs of overload. The course also covers lockout/tagout procedures to protect workers from dangerous stored energy and emphasizes the importance of following safety procedures and reporting incidents.
Course Objectives
1. Describe the dangers of electricity
2. Explain the effects and electrical accident can have on your body
3. Review the signs and symbols that alert you to the presence of an electrical hazard
4. Understand methods of protection against electrical hazards, including lockout/tagout procedures
This course is designed to help organizations meet OSHA training requirements on the control of hazardous energy per 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(7)(i)(C) and electrical safety per 29 CFR 1910.332(b)(2).
