Trauma-informed care is an essential tenet of modern healthcare practice. Using the basic principles of trauma-informed care is necessary to provide culturally competent and quality evidence-based healthcare, yet trauma-informed care is often presented in a theoretical manner that lacks tangible advice for integration into practice.

This webinar provides a refresher of the underlying principles of trauma-informed care using the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration's model alongside practical strategies for implementation. Case studies and alternative frameworks that illustrate how to utilize trauma-informed care in practice will be presented.

This chapter will review the basics of trauma and trauma-informed care. Information will be presented on the incidence of trauma, recognizing trauma in clients, and the universal model for trauma-informed care.

2. Trauma-Informed Care Frameworks for Practice

This chapter will provide several complementary frameworks to guide the implementation of the trauma-informed care model into practice. Participants will be introduced to several examples of frameworks for specific populations and areas of practice.

3. Trauma-Informed Case Study Examples

This chapter aims to build on the participant’s knowledge from the previous two chapters by providing several case examples of the use of trauma-informed care in practice. Participants will be able to engage with the case studies by selecting appropriate answers to questions intended to test their knowledge.

4. Question and Answer Session

This chapter is a viewer-submitted question and answer session facilitated by Quinn Tyminski.
