1. Florida Occupational Therapy Practice Act
This chapter will discuss contents of the Florida Occupational Therapy (OT) Practice Act, including its purpose; definitions; the board of OT and its functions; and licensure requirements in Florida, including educational preparation, fieldwork completion, and those impacting telehealth service provision. The Florida OT Association, American OT Association, and other professional organizations dedicated to the OT profession will also be discussed.
2. Florida Occupational Therapy Laws
This chapter will cover information about the OT laws and rules in the state and the standards related to the education, competence, experience, and supervision of licensed practitioners. The topics covered include: types of OT practitioners (occupational therapists, therapy assistants, and aides); typical duties, tasks, responsibilities, and supervision requirements for unlicensed personnel; types of supervision during service delivery; and specific training requirements for use of prescription devices such as electronic stimulation and ultrasound.
3. Florida Occupational Therapy Licensure Renewal Requirements
This chapter outlines the process to obtain and maintain a valid license for practicing as an occupational therapy practitioner in the state of Florida. The chapter also clarifies continuing education requirements, licensure renewal and fees, disciplinary action(s) and penalties, and extenuating circumstances that may influence the licensure process.
4. Legal and Ethical Issues
This chapter explains the legal issues that influence OT practice, including the steps involved in ethical decision-making. Topics in this chapter include civil and criminal law; torts; and the OT code of ethics, core values, and ethical principles, including standards of conduct and ethical violations and dilemmas.
