This chapter explores the distinctions between three elements that shape the legal landscape of physical therapy licensure and practice. An overview of the laws, rules and regulations, and policies that govern physical therapy practice will be reviewed.
2. General Rules Governing the Practice of Physical Therapy in Tennessee: Licensure
This chapter will review Tennessee’s General Rules Governing the Practice of Physical Therapy as it relates to licensure requirements.
3. General Rules Governing the Practice of Physical Therapy in Tennessee: Practice Responsibilities
This chapter will review Tennessee’s General Rules Governing the Practice of Physical Therapy as it relates to physical therapist scope of practice. This chapter will specifically cover the following statutes: referral requirement and exceptions, advertising, release of client records, and customer right to know. Additionally, this chapter will review the supervision responsibilities of physical therapist assistants, the role of the physical therapist assistant, and supervision responsibilities related to unlicensed personnel and students.
4. General Rules Governing the Practice of Physical Therapy in Tennessee: Continuing Competence
This chapter will review Tennessee’s General Rules Governing the Practice of Physical Therapy as it relates to the required continuing competence requirements for each renewal period. Additionally, this chapter will cover the specific statutes related to dry needling and professional peer assistance. Education regarding offenses that may lead to disciplinary action in Tennessee will also be covered.
5. General Rules Governing the Practice of Physical Therapy in Tennessee: Professionalism
This chapter will review the topics of professional accountability, the code of ethics, and professional boundaries by presenting and examining case-based examples. Additionally, the presenter will discuss the specific Tennessee rules and regulations around disciplinary actions and penalties and the role and purpose of the Board in regulating safe physical therapy practices.
