Accreditation Check:

Management of hip pathology can be challenging for both the novice and experienced clinician. Due to the extensive anatomy, proximity, overlap in symptoms to other pathologies, and a relatively new knowledge base with regards to intra-articular pathology, it is critical that all therapists take the time to advance their knowledge of the topic. This course is intended to give you an overview of both extra- and intra-articular hip pathologies, as well as the subsequent intervention strategies. We will review both general and specific treatment principles covering mobility and stability interventions related to the hip. After completion of this course, participants should feel confident in their ability to understand the interventions used for hip patients, general treatment principles, and non-operative rehabilitation techniques. This is the first half of a two part course. Be sure to watch the following:

1. Management of Hip Injuries

In this course, Mike Voight discusses the common clinical presentation of intra-articular and extra-articular hip injuries, and challenges participants to understand the history and evolution of arthroscopic hip surgery, as well as the general steps in hip arthroscopy surgical procedures. Participants will learn to describe and demonstrate the various types of mobilizations used to address extra and intra-articular hip pathologies.

2. Rehabilitation of the Non-Operative Hip

Join Dr. Campbell as she demonstrates rehabilitation approaches for the non-operative hip through hip stretching and strengthening exercises for the restoration of normal mobility about the hip, and improved hip mechanics and functional movement. Participants will understand the progression of mobilizations implemented to restore full ROM post operatively, and will review the appropriate timelines for progression of hip strengthening post operatively.

3. Case Study

This chapter presents participants with an interactive case study. Using this case study, participants will answer a set of follow up questions to challenge engagement and understanding of the management and treatment of hip injuries.
